Riolunato is a municipality in the province of Modena which is part of Mountain Community of Frignano which has its own capital to Pavullo nel Frignano. The territory is Scoltenna path from the river and several tributaries. To the south of the country is this Appenninico the ridge from which emerge the summit of Mount Cimone. The town lies on the banks of a small artificial lake that was created by a dam that feeds a hydroelectric power station.
