Montecreto

Montecreto is a municipality in the province of Modena which rises to 900 metres on a hill around the church of St. John overlooking the valley of the river Scoltenna. During the twelfth century fortress became the property of the family Gualandelli which was then sold during 1277 to the municipality of Modena. At the end of the sixteenth century the centre of Montecreto had reached its current state. At the end of the eighteenth century, however, the country was plundered by the Napoleonic troops of all assets that were present.
